Unveiled this June 10 during the opening conference of WWDC 2024, watchOS 11 includes a host of new features. Among them, the arrival on our Apple Watches of the Translate application, which will allow rapid translations in 20 languages, directly on the wrist, without needing to take out the iPhone. A practical novelty for Apple Watches which follows, although four years later, the introduction of this same application on iOS, in 2020, with iOS 14.

As pointed out Neowin, however, you will have to wait a little before you can take advantage of it. As a reminder, if watchOS 11 is now accessible through a beta dedicated to developers, it will not arrive in public version before this fall.

Translation into 20 languages soon on the wrist

Among the 20 languages offered by the Translate application on Apple Watch, we will find Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Ukrainian and Portuguese.

Although less complete than Google Translate, Apple’s Translate application will benefit from good integration with the Apple Watch, and an interface very close to that offered on the iPhone so as not to destabilize anyone. However, we can think that this version of watchOS will be more practical to use on a daily basis. The latter will notably offer a widget “ Smart scrolling » allowing you to launch a translation in one click.

The application will also be able to detect if you are traveling to another country to automatically adopt the translation that best corresponds to the language spoken locally. Enough to encourage the use of this watchOS version of the service.

We also learn that it will be possible to use it to read a translation using the Apple Watch speaker, and to download languages locally on the toquante to allow offline use. Practical for excursions abroad, outside areas covered by the cellular network.
