Microsoft presents its novelties to its developers, but not everything is uninteresting, far from it. During the Microsoft Build, we learned that the Microsoft 365 Copilot will arrive natively in Windows 11: enough to really integrate AI everywhere on our PCs.
Every year, Microsoft Build takes place, the firm’s conference mainly dedicated to site and application developers, but not only. It’s also time to see what new features are coming to Microsoft services, including Windows 11. The operating system will soon benefit from Microsoft 365 Copilot, the assistant boosted with artificial intelligence, natively under a new name: Windows Copilot. In addition to that, the assistant also comes natively in Edge. But that’s not all: we also learn that the Microsoft Store will offer automatically generated reviews.
The Microsoft Copilot directly in Windows 11
Microsoft wants to announce it with great fanfare, “Windows is the first PC platform to provide centralized AI support to customers. Windows Copilot is coming to Windows 11: Combining it with Bing Chat and third-party plugins, we should be able to ask Microsoft’s AI questions.
To activate Windows Copilot, it will be very simple: a button will be located in the center of the taskbar. By clicking on it, a side pane will open on the right to start using the tool. This Copilot allows us to rewrite, summarize or explain content and, as we can do with Bing Chat, to answer our questions.
Microsoft adds that Windows Copilot will be available for preview on Windows 11 in June, therefore reserved for certain users. We can imagine a wider deployment in the months to come, why not on the occasion of a future conference of the company.
The arrival of ChatGPT plugins on Windows Copilot
Microsoft takes the opportunity to announce the arrival of ChatGPT plug-ins in Windows Copilot and Bing. In fact, it is more generally the support for plug-ins that lands on Microsoft’s AI tools.
But since these are based on OpenAI’s GPT-4, all the plug-ins available on ChatGPT are compatible on Copilot and Bing Chat, and vice versa. What really convince developers to focus on such applications.
Small changes to Windows 11
But alongside all these new features dedicated to artificial intelligence, Windows 11 is entitled to some minor changes. The first should delight fans of Windows, or at least those of older versions. Software opened twice (two browser windows for example) can be divided into two in the taskbar. The different instances can now be separated from each other, so you can access them in one click instead of two.
Another change made, you can hide the time and date in the taskbar, for those who hate this display. An option present in the time and date settings in Windows. It will also be easier to close applications from the taskbar, with a right click.
In the last details to mention, there is support for new compressed file formats, such as .tar, .7-zip, .gz as well as other open-source formats. This allows to ” benefit ( benefit for the joke)better performance of the archive feature during compression on Windows.Finally, the terminal is equipped with a system of tabs, to avoid multiplying the windows.
Finally,The Vergeadds that Windows 11 now supports Bluetooth LE, or Bluetooth Low Energy. This is a low-power specification for Bluetooth headphones, earphones, and speakers. Microsoft says it made this possible thanks to Samsung and Intel.
