Withdrawal of Noël Le Graët from the presidency of the FFF: what now?

After several exits from the road widely condemned by figures from the world of football and the Minister of Sports, Noël Le Graët, the president of the French Football Federation, was set back. He gives way to Philippe Diallo, who will take over until the end of January. But does Noël Le Graët have a chance of returning to his post? And if not, who will succeed him?

After several controversial remarks and accusations of moral and sexual harassment, Noël Le Graët is no longer the executive president of the French Football Federation (FFF). The 81-year-old man was retired after an extraordinary executive committee meeting. He leaves his place to Philippe Diallo, who will take over as interim. But will Noël Le Graët be able to resume his chair quickly?

Before getting there, we will first have to wait for the conclusion of the audit carried out by the Ministry of Sports, scheduled for the end of January, the date until which Noël Le Graët was withdrawn. If he is cleared, including accusations of sexist behavior, he could regain his place. A scenario that today seems unlikely.

Multiple Favorites

On the other hand, if the investigation is overwhelming, Noël Le Graët has promised to resign, which would lead to an extension of the interim of Philippe Diallo as president of the FFF until June 2023. A vote will then take place during a general assembly to elect the new president. And among the favorites, Philippe Diallo, current interim, vice-president since December 2021 and who has an advantage: that of being close to the Macron camp, after having worked in the cabinet of Édouard Philippe in Le Havre.

Jamel Sandjak, opponent for ten years to Noël Le Graët, and member of the Comex, could also take up the post. The president of the League of Paris would have the favors of the forecasts. Another possibility, Marc Keller, president of the Racing Club de Strasbourg, successor dubbed by Noël Le Graët. Or, and it would be a surprise, the return of Michel Platini, who is to meet the Minister of Sports in February. Emmanuel Macron would have even contacted him a few days ago.
