Withdrawing money from another bank will cost you more

In many municipalities, like the one visited by TF1 in the 8 p.m. video at the top of this article, there is no other choice than to withdraw money from the only available ATM. But withdrawing from a bank other than yours is a gesture that will cost more this year, according to a study by Panorabanques published on Tuesday.

According to the calculations of the banking comparator, if you do it four times a month, it will cost you on average no longer 8.60 euros per year, but 12 euros per year. This is 39% more than last year. Bad news for many customers. “It’s not normal. The banks take more and more, each time it increases“, plague a man with TF1.

How to explain the increase in these bank charges? For Panorabanques, institutions have lost money by lowering their interest rates and are trying to recover it somewhere, such as cash withdrawals from their branches, for which many have reduced the number of free transactions. “QWhen you make a withdrawal from a bank other than your own, your bank pays a commission, and this commission has increased by nearly 56%. The banks charge each other more for these operations”, explains its spokesperson Basile Duval.

And for consumers, it is increasingly difficult to escape these price increases, because the number of distributors continues to decline. In five years, seven thousand pick-up points have been eliminated.
