A video game, albeit basic, has been causing a sensation on social networks for several days. It was designed entirely using AI and ChatGPTat the request of an artist and designer.

The Spanish artist Javi Lopez, lacking any programming knowledge, took up the challenge of creating a video game by turning to AI, more precisely ChatGPT, in its GPT-4 version. His request was to generate code for an Angry Birds-inspired game, using JavaScript. At the same time, he exploited other image-generative artificial intelligence to create the visual elements of the game. The process only took around ten hours. And the result is quite remarkable.

A Halloween game created entirely by AI

Artist Javi Lopez, who became known this past year for his creations generated by artificial intelligence, has unveiled a video game that he created entirely using AI. This initiative sparks interest in the capabilities of AI in the field of artistic creation, especially among individuals who have no programming experience.

For this project, Javi Lopez chose to create a game inspired by Angry Birds for Halloween. Let’s emphasize this: he has no knowledge of programming. To help him, he called on the famous ChatGPT, so that it could generate the code necessary to create the game in JavaScript, an accessible solution that does not require advanced technical skills.

In addition to the code, Javi Lopez used two other generative AIs, Dall-E 3 and Midjourney, to design the visual environment of his game. The entire creative process was carried out thanks to the collaboration between the artist and these AI, testifying in passing to the power of technology in terms of artistic creation.

Many iterations with ChatGPT, for a very convincing final result

Javi Lopez started the process by asking the AI a simple question: “ Now can we create a simple game using matter.js and p5.js in the style of Angry Birds? » As a reminder, Matter.js is a 2D physics rendering engine, while p5.js is a well-known JavaScript library.

The goal of the game is to be able to simply throw a ball with an angle and force using the mouse and then hit stacked boxes with 2D physics. The AI then conversed with Javi to arrive at the final result, which was widely praised for its quality. The designer also explains having had to take the step “ many iterations ”, which required “ patience “.

We tested this mini game and, indeed, it is quite successful. We say that starting from there, the prospects for the use of artificial intelligence in the field of video games, and more generally in those of art, creation and entertainment, are quite remarkable.
