Witnesses wanted – circus cattle: bars must have been opened

On the night of Friday a sad animal accident happened in Straßwalchen. A Flachgauerin collided with her car in a herd of escaped circus cattle in the local area. Three of the seven animals were killed in the accident and one was seriously injured. The police suspect a forceful opening of the gate.

“The three cattle were like family members to us,” explains Artur Kaiser the day after the tragedy. “The herd is now torn apart.” The boss of the Circus King, who will be guest in Straßwalchen until Sunday, is stunned. On Friday night, the family business lost three of its circus cattle. A total of seven animals escaped from an enclosure late Thursday evening. Five of the cattle made their way to the B154, Mondsee Strasse. A car driver overlooked the escaped herd in the local area and crashed into the circus animals in thick fog.

Animals forcibly released
Three cattle, a yak, an African Watussi cattle and a mixed breed died at the scene of the accident. The dam, a Scottish Highland cattle, was seriously injured. Another animal got away unscathed. The driver and her passenger remained unharmed. An alcohol test was negative.

How the animals got into the open is still unclear. The police now suspect a violent opening of the gate and are looking for witnesses.
