WLAN guest access: This is how you set it up with the FritzBox
Nowadays, routers are indispensable in almost every household: They provide Internet access for devices via DSL, TV cable, fiber optics or mobile communications. Long cables are only a problem in rare cases – mobile phones, laptops & Co. are connected wirelessly via WLAN. All devices in the home network can also access each other via the router. If the technology of guests does not have the same rights in the network, then set up the WLAN guest access. The router thus provides a separate WLAN radio network that connects devices to the Internet, but not to printers, PCs, etc. in the home network. COMPUTER BILD explains how to activate the WLAN guest access on your FritzBox, set up blocks for Internet pages and limit the bandwidth of the guest access.

Complete List: The Best WiFi Routers
FritzBox: Set up WLAN guest access
This is how you set up the WLAN guest access of your FritzBox:
Connect to the router and enter http://fritz.box/ in the address line of a browser. Sign in with the device password—you can find it on the bottom of the router on most models.
Activate the three dots at the top right extended view and click on the menu on the left WIRELESS INTERNET ACCESS such as guest access and tick the box Guest access active.
With the two options below you can decide whether there is a private WiFi guest access or a public WiFi hotspot should be – the latter does not require a password and is useful in cafés, restaurants and doctor’s offices.
Under “WLAN access for guest access/hotspot” you specify a name and, if necessary, a password for the guest access.
If you click on “Quick connect”. Show QR code click, a QR code can be printed out and hung up – guests then simply scan it with their smartphone to connect instead of entering a password.
Convenient for the public hotspot: click More settings and Show splash page such as Permit login to the guest access/hotspot only after agreeing to the terms of useguests on a website must first agree to your terms of use before they can use the hotspot.
If guests are only to be allowed to surf and send emails, check the box under “Devices in guest access or hotspot”. Restrict internet applications.
For public hotspots, to protect your guests, do not unhook the WLAN devices are allowed to communicate with each other set.
click on Take overafter you have set the guest access to your liking.
WLAN guest access: block websites
By default, all websites that the Federal Testing Center for Media Harmful to Young Persons (BPjM) classifies as questionable are blocked for the WLAN guest access. To independently block other websites, click on in the FritzBox menu Internet, filter, lists and Edit blocked websites. Enter all the pages to be blocked in the window and confirm with Take over.
FritzBox guest WLAN: Limit bandwidth
To ensure that the connection via the regular WLAN does not come to a standstill, the bandwidth for devices in the WLAN guest access can be limited. To do this, click in the FritzBox menu Internet, filter such as prioritization and tick the box at the bottom Reserve bandwidth for the home network. Use the drop-down menu to select how much bandwidth you want to reserve for the regular WLAN and then click on Take over.
