Wo Long Fallen Dynasty: Team Ninja’s next action game shows up again

Rather than going immediately to a Nioh 3, Team Ninja decided to keep certain principles but by offering us a brand new setting located in China, a universe with which Koei Tecmo is more than familiar. If we can expect to find a lot of soul-like codes under the direction of producers Fumihiko Yasuda (Nioh) and Masaaki Yamagiwa (Bloodborne), we already know how Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty will not look like Nioh, start with the absence of stamina gauge which suggests a more unbridled action.

Gameplay-wise, the biggest difference is the emphasis on speed. There’s no stamina gauge like in Nioh, so you’ll constantly be faced with a host of situations that you’ll need to react to immediately. You can choose to play more aggressively, but there are also plenty of new ways to dodge enemy attacks“, comments Fumihiko Yasuda at IGN.

At the same time, the appearance of a jump button goes hand in hand with a more vertical level architecture, levels which will also always be linear and separated in the form of missions (no large interconnected world). As a tribute to Chinese martial arts, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty will allow you to wield over 10 different weapons, including the spear, long sword, and double sword that can be seen in this trailer.

Finally, the game puts forward a system of “morale” still rather vague but which is based on ranks to determine the difficulty of an upcoming fight. The higher an enemy’s moral rank is than the player’s, the riskier the task will be. To increase your rank, you just have to win fights, but watch out for the backlash because morale degrades after each death. And since enemy morale also changes over time, this system should bring new dynamics specific to the game.

New sorcery spells will be unlocked when you reach a higher rank. Divine beasts can also be summoned to aid you during battles. In the trailer, you can see the summoning of the Vermilion Bird, one of China’s legendary beasts. You will befriend other of these divine beasts as you progress through the story“, can we read.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty will be back with new information from September 15 to 18 as part of TGS 2022. The game being announced for early 2023, we can even hope to have details on the beta which is sure to be organized to allow developers to improve the game based on player feedback, such as for Nioh, Nioh 2 and Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin. Promised to Game Pass subscribers on release day, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty will be available on PlayStation, Xbox and PC.
