With his books such as “Deutsch für Profis” he made a name for himself throughout the German-speaking world as an expert in language and style. He began his journalistic career after the Second World War as a translator for the American military government’s “Neue Zeitung”.
He later switched to the AP news agency and the “SZ”. There he headed the newsroom. “Stern” founder Henri Nannen brought him to Hamburg in 1966, where he headed the renowned journalism school. Schneider first became the manager on duty, then the publishing manager, before moving to Springer in 1971 for 13 years.
On the TikTok channel «reporter factory» he taught language and style to Generation Z in the last months of his life:
Now the language critic died in Starnberg at the age of 97, as his family announced.
