Wolfgang Joop (75) already earned immense sums from the sale of this painting, but he would only have waited a few more years … The fashion designer was once in possession of the work "Portrait of the Marjorie Ferry" by Tamara de Lempicka (1898-1980) the year 1932, which came under the hammer at Christie's auction house for an incredible 19.2 million euros. The special thing: Joop sold the painting in 2009 for a mere four million euros.
"I bought the picture for around 400,000 euros and got four million for it. That was a great deal," said Joop, commenting on the current sale in the "Bild" newspaper. He had sensed that it would now bring so much: "People want to buy something that has prestige. Next time the picture will cost twice as much." He also felt that his taste was confirmed.
At that time, Joop told an interview with the "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung" that he no longer dealt with other artists and therefore wanted to sell almost all of his paintings. He needed freedom and empty walls to be able to work as an artist again. Lack of money would have played no role in this decision.
