Wolverine: the new Hugh Jackman may have been found by Marvel!

After having embodied Sir Elton John, Taron Egerton hopes one day to embody another emblematic figure: the Logan of the X-Men.

Known for playing the starring role of Eggsy in the first two Kingsmans, Taron Egerton sat down with The New York Times to promote his new Apple TV+ series, Black Bird. During the interview, published this Friday, the actor says he has met with the leaders of Marvel Studios, including their president Kevin Feige, and that he would like to follow in the footsteps of Hugh Jackman by playing the next Wolverine.

The Rocketman star, however, admitted he would be a little “apprehensive” if he got the chance to play the cult X-Men character.

I don’t think it would be a mistake to say thatsaid Egerton, 32, laughing at his interest in the role. “I would be excited but also apprehensive because Hugh is so associated with the role that I wonder if it would be very difficult for someone else to do it.” But his desire is there: “But I hope if it happens they will give me a chance.

And this is not the first time that the young man has spoken publicly about the character. In 2019, he had indeed told British GQ that he was aware of the hopes of some Marvel fans to see him play the character in question. That someone thinks I’d be good for the role is really flattering. I love Marvel but this is just fan stuff. There is no basis to these rumors,” he said at the time.

In addition, still questioned by the Times, Taron Egerton admitted that his motivations for accepting his roles – decried by critics – in the 2018 films, Robin Hood and Billionaire Boys Club, had not been good.

I ignored my instincts for these two jobs because I was offered a lot of money to do them. And that’s just fatal. You cannot choose roles this way.

But to embody the hero of Marvel, the actor could benefit from the precious advice… from the former Wolverine in person! Indeed, the two actors gave the counterpart in the comedy-drama Eddie The Eagle (2016) by Dexter Fletcher, before Hugh Jackman played the role of the clawed hero for the last time in Logan in 2017.
