In the election in the Academic Senate, the medical professor Milena Kralickova received 55 votes on Friday. 14 votes went to the only opposing candidate, the historian Michal Stehlik. The 49-year-old should take over her new office on February 1, 2022.
Kralickova recalled that almost 125 years ago the first women were admitted to university in Prague. “Today it is the case that women are in the majority in several subjects,” said the previous Vice Rector for Academic Affairs. The embryologist’s research areas include issues of infertility.
Charles University was founded in 1348 by the Bohemian King and Roman-German Emperor Charles IV. It is considered to be one of the oldest universities north of the Alps. Today more than 46,000 students study and research in more than 800 subject areas at the Czech university.
