Woman found colleagues – 55-year-old died of CO poisoning

Because he couldn’t get to work, a colleague in Haslach in Upper Austria looked at the man at home and found the 55-year-old unconscious. He suffered CO poisoning through a mistake in operating the open fireplace. The victim later died in the hospital.

The 55-year-old from Haslach was found unconscious by the 53-year-old in his house shortly before 9 a.m. on Thursday. The colleague looked after him because he had not shown up for work.

During the surveys, it was found that the open fireplace was heated the evening before. For a previously unexplained cause, a high concentration of carbon monoxide arose in the air, which made the man unconscious. The crew of the rescue helicopter flew the 55-year-old to the hospital in Graz. The man died around 2:30 p.m. due to carbon monoxide poisoning.

Operator error
Based on the location of the traces, it can be assumed that an operating error led to the formation of the carbon monoxide concentration in the air.
