Women’s Euro football: England win the opening match against Austria

England did not fail. Organizing country of the Women’s Euro, the Lionesses did the job with this victory against Austria in the opening match (1-0).

In an Old Trafford stadium with 68,871 spectators (a record for a match in the competition), the English opened the scoring in the first quarter of an hour. It was Arsenal striker Beth Mead who scored the only goal of the game with a clever lob on the Austrian goalkeeper (1-0, 17th), but the lack of realism of the English will have to be settled if the hosts of the competition want to go to the end of the tournament which promises to be very open.
