The Audiovisual and Digital Communication Regulatory Authority (Arcom) is joining forces with the Ministry of Sports for the “Women’s Sport Always” operation, which promotes the retransmission of women’s sports in the media. An operation, carried out for several years, which is beginning to bear fruit.

“Women’s sport always”. It is not a transition between two subjects of a TV news, but the name of the operation which begins Monday and is held until Sunday. Led by the Audiovisual and Digital Communication Regulatory Authority (Arcom) and the Ministry of Sports, the operation aims to promote equality between women and men in the sports world, by inviting the media to broadcast more women’s sport.

“This type of operation also helps free the voice of athletes”

And the campaign has borne fruit since its first edition in 2013. “It’s an operation that has met with real support: over time, behaviors change and the channels no longer hesitate to acquire transmission rights for women’s sports “, observes on Europe 1 Carole Bienaimé Besse, member of the Arcom college. “The publishers have realized that the French want good performances. Whether they are accomplished by male or female athletes is absolutely not the subject for viewers. But we must maintain the efforts and the pressure to achieve the equality.”

And the benefits of this operation are not limited to parity in the media. “This highlighting of women’s sport also makes it possible to fight against violence against female athletes”, says Carole Bienaimé Besse. “We have been able to witness in recent years speaking out that went in this direction, and I believe that this type of operation also helps to free the words of athletes.”
