Wonder Woman 1984: DC film starts simultaneously in theaters and via HBO Max

"Wonder Woman 1984" with Gal Gadot is breaking new ground for Christmas: The DC film will be shown in parallel in the cinema and via streaming.

The corona pandemic hit the cinema industry hard this year. Numerous theatrical releases have been postponed. Several films have come to the fans via streaming. Now Warner Bros. has decided on a new path with "Wonder Woman 1984". The DC film with Gal Gadot (35) in the title role will be released in December – but will also be available via the streaming service HBO Max. Not only has WarnerMedia boss Jason Kilar (49) confirmed this according to US media reports, but also announced Gal Gadot and director Patty Jenkins (49) via their social media accounts.

When will "Wonder Woman 1984" come to Germany?

Patty Jenkins, who was already responsible for the successful first part from 2017, explained via Twitter: "At some point you have to choose to share every love and joy you can give, and put that above everything else." She hopes that the film will bring "a little joy and a respite" to everyone over the Christmas period. She also praises the "great measures" that cinema operators have taken to make the cinema experience safe during the Corona crisis.

Leading actress Gal Gadot wrote via Twitterthat it wasn't an easy decision. She did not think that the theatrical release would be delayed for so long, but Corona shook the whole world. The film is something very special for her and she hopes it will fill the hearts of the fans with "joy, hope and love". All her heart and soul is in it. It also makes it clear that the cinema operators are doing "an incredible job" to ensure the safety of visitors. She also calls for a mask to be worn.

The parallel launch in the cinema and via HBO Max on December 25, however, only applies in the USA. The streaming service is not yet available in Germany. In addition, the film at HBO Max should not cost anything extra, but should be included in the subscription price. The international theatrical release of "Wonder Woman 1984" is to be brought forward to December 16, according to "Deadline". In addition to Gal Gadot, Chris Pine (40, "Star Trek Beyond") is also returning. Kristen Wiig (47, "Bridal Alert") becomes the villain Cheetah.
