Using ChatGPT, the tool comes in the form of a plugin and promises to simplify the creation of textual content with formidable efficiency, but with questionable quality results.
WordPress is the most popular solution for editing a website, so much so that it’s hard to miss while surfing the web. While today it is exploited for multiple purposes, it has its origins in blogging, and the creation of articles is deeply rooted in its roots. In that case, why not add some generative AI to it to bring it up to date?
A tool directly integrated into the text editor
Several plugins are already available to facilitate content creation using generative AIs on WordPress. This time, it is Automattic, the editor of the latter, which sticks to it with a tool dedicated to the generation of texts. Called Jetpack AI Assistant, it allows you to launch a request directly from the text editing interface.
Automattic gives as an example the possibility of generating “ blog posts, detail pages, structured lists and comprehensive tables as well as titles and abstracts. Like some browser extensions like AIPRM, AI Assistant also lets you choose the tone used: formal, provocative, humorous, etc.
Although there is no indication of the generative AI program used by the plugin, it is almost certain that GPT-3 or GPT-4 is involved. Indeed, in the demonstration video of the plugin, we can see that the information used for the generation dates back to 2021, as does the database used by the program published by OpenAI.
Jetpack AI Assistant is currently available for free to WordPress.com users for a limited time. Other users benefit from 20 free requests before having to pay a monthly subscription of €10.

With great power comes great responsibility
The arrival of such plugins on WordPress is not surprising. ChatGPT has been quickly adopted for generating text, whether it is to summarize documents, facilitate on-page SEO optimization – essential for SEO – or even create complete content. The program can chew long hours of work, and many consider it a good tool to easily generate profits from a website.
However, this often comes at the cost of content quality. If, in terms of form, the texts generated can range from surprisingly correct to terribly bad and bland, the different iterations of GPT have the main drawback of being wrong about the substance of the subject treated. Without proper knowledge of prompts, manual proofreading, or source checking, the information shared may turn out to be outdated, inaccurate, or even false.
Generative AIs can work wonders, and Automattic can’t be faulted for providing a plugin that makes using them more accessible. But, one can wonder about the impact that this type of tool will eventually have on the general quality of content on the web… and on the work of many editors.
