The title race in the English Premier League is progressing with difficulty but steadily. After Manchester City and their attacker Erling Haaland put Liverpool FC under pressure with a win in the early afternoon, the Reds countered against a relegation candidate in the evening.
Liverpool FC overcame the setback at Arsenal FC and barely maintained their top spot in the English Premier League. However, Man City played one game less. Last Sunday, Liverpool suffered their first league defeat since September 30th with a 3-1 defeat at Arsenal FC. Diogo Jota (31st), Luis Diaz (52nd) and Darwin (79th) made the Reds’ victory perfect with their goals in front of a record crowd of 59,896 spectators, who will still have to do without their injured superstar Mohamed Salah. Dara O’Shea had equalized for Burnley (45′).
Erling Haaland is a goal monster again
Klopp was particularly pleased with one personnel change: the return of long-injured full-back Andrew Robertson to the starting eleven. There was still some bad news. Left-back Trent Alexander-Arnold had to be substituted injured with a knee problem.
Man City also had more trouble than expected. Thanks to Erling Haaland, the English football champions took the lead in the Premier League, at least for a few hours. The ex-Dortmund player scored both goals in the triple winner’s 2-0 (0-0) win against Everton FC.
For a long time, City found it very difficult to create scoring chances against their deep opponents. Only Haaland took the lead after a corner kick (71′). He secured the decision with a successfully completed counterattack (85th). They were the Norwegian’s goals number 72 and 73 in his 78th competitive game for Manchester – and his first in the Premier League in 77 days.
