Cats are playful – digitally too. These apps and gadgets make the four-legged friends particularly happy.

Every year on August 8th, cat lovers celebrate their coexistence with their four-legged friends. So that international cat day can be celebrated appropriately, there are apps that make mewing pets and their owners equally happy.

Developer target audience: cats!

Are cats gamers? The variety of games for cats suggests, there are a number of videos on YouTube showing the high score hunters. Highlights include “Friskies JitterBug” (Android & iOS), “Friskies CatFishing 2” (Android & iOS) and “Cat Alone” (Android & iOS). What they have in common is that they contain elements that encourage cats to touch the touch display with their velvet paws. The four-legged friends catch fish or mice and hunt insects. With “Friskies JitterBug”, cat owners can compare the results of their pets with each other thanks to a Facebook link.

“Cat Playground” (Android) is kept simple, here users only have the choice between a mouse and a virtual laser pointer that the four-legged friend should hunt. “Paint For Cats” (only available for Apple devices)iOS) is meant to appeal to cats’ artistic streak. However, the pets are also encouraged to chase a mouse here – if they do so, an image from one of the ten pre-selected color palettes is created in the background.

The game “Pocket Pond 2” (Android & iOS). Players breed the Japanese Koi fish here and take care of them in Tamagotchi style, including regular cleaning of the pool and the digital water filter. Koi breeders follow the slowed-down hustle and bustle in their pocket from a bird’s eye view. However, the app is no less popular among cats: water and fish react to touching the display – fascinating enough for many cats to spend hours with the app.

Cat entertainment from afar

Especially if you have a house cat as a single, you often wonder how your favorite four-legged friend might be doing alone at home. Many apps make it possible to pay you a digital visit using a surveillance camera, but only one provider allows you to play with a laser pointer at the same time: the “Petcube” is a cube in which both a camera and an operable laser pointer are integrated. Simply swipe your finger across the screen and watch the cat hunt. If you don’t want to buy the hardware, you can use the “Petcube App” (Android & iOS) play with strange cats, provided that other users share their “Petcube”.
