World Championship Russian Roulette: explosive atmosphere guaranteed

You’re in luck: you’re taking part in a world championship. You’re out of luck: it’s Russian roulette. Who will survive (or cheat) the longest in World Championship Russian Rouletteour board game of the week?

what is the board game World Championship Russian Roulette ?

In World Championship Russian Roulette (abbreviated WCRR in the rest of the article), you take part in a world championship… of Russian roulette (thank you Captain Obvious!). To get out of it, you can cheat by removing the loaded bullet from your barrel. But be careful not to get caught.

Accessible from 14 years old, for 2 to 6 players, it is a game of bluffing and risk-taking, which is played between friends for games of about 30 minutes.

Edited by Igiari, World Championship Russian Roulette is a game by Anthony Burch, illustrated by Weberson Santiago, and sold for €19.90 at Philibert.

How to play World Championship Russian Roulette ?

Establishment

The setup is very quick, since all you have to do is distribute their equipment to each player: seven cards (six Click cards and a Ball card), a Random Action card, a dice to bet on, and a team of four characters.

That’s all, the game can begin.

World Championship Russian Roulette : The game’s rules

In WCRR, the different phases are played simultaneously.

The first is to secretly choose which bullet to remove from its barrel. Either you are honest and remove a Click card, or you cheat and remove the Bullet card. The removed card is set aside, the other six are shuffled and form your draw pile (the six cartridges in your pistol). Then each player bets with his dice the number of shots he thinks he can fire without burning his brains out.

Before moving on to the phase that everyone is waiting for (except those who hold the guns…), the players can accuse each other of cheating. If an accused person turns out to have actually set aside their Bullet card, they lose a character and are eliminated from the round. The accuser receives action cards as a reward. In the event of a defamatory accusation, the accused receives an Action card as compensation, while the accuser must replace a Click card in his barrel with a Bullet card (and therefore end up with potentially two loaded cartridges).

Then, one after the other, each player turns over as many cards from his deck as the value of his bet. If you reveal on a Click card, all is well, you continue. But if it’s the loaded ball, bad luck, you lose a character from your team.

The survivors score points, and the game repeats until all but one of the teams have blown up the tank, or one player has 15 victory points.

Finally, the Action cards specify in which phase they can be played. They all bring effects that disrupt the normal course of the game, examples: everyone aims in the air for the next shot, you aim at another player rather than yourself, a player must add one to his bet, etc. .

Why play World Championship Russian Roulette?

Forget games with 2 or 3 players. WCRRis typically the kind of game to play in the evening, between friends. The more of you there are, the more fun you will have. Even if technically it works with a small number of players, we lose a large part of its interest: the atmosphere it generates around the table.

And for this atmosphere to be as good as possible, it is better to avoid playing with people who are a little touchy or grumpy, the element of chance being obviously very present.

But it doesn’t matter, it’s not really to know who wins at the end that we play, but to have a good time and have fun. Cheating, lying like a tooth-puller, bluffing, accusing others, rightly or wrongly, using Action cards to reverse the course of a round, etc. The opportunities abound!

The rules are simple to understand, and the only slightly complex phase (the resolution of an accusation) is well summarized on a game aid. The icing on the cake, the material and the illustrations are very successful.

The games are fast, tense, nervous, and you can continue to have fun even after being eliminated, encouraging others to accuse, take risks, etc. The rhythm is sometimes a little broken when several “action” cards are played, or when a player gets the wrong phase, but nothing dramatic.

In short, if you are looking for a party game to play with friends, on the terrace while having an aperitif, World Championship Russian Rouletteis the ideal candidate. Simple, fast, generator of frank laughter… just make sure that no one around the table is embarrassed by the rather caustic theme.
