World Cup 2022: the United States, the first team to arrive in Qatar

Players from the American national team, the first of the 32 qualified nations to arrive in Qatar ten days before the 2022 World Cup, landed at Hamad International Airport in Doha late Thursday afternoon. Their Qatar Airways flight from New York was among the first to use the new part of the airport which opened on Thursday;

The “Team USA”, led by the American Gregg Berhalter since December 2018, set foot in Qatar. It is the first nation to have placed its able-bodied on the soil of the host country.

The United States will enter the competition against Wales on November 21, before facing England on November 25. His most anticipated match will oppose him to Iran, his sworn enemy on the international scene, on November 29.

Eleventh participation

The 26 players and the American staff will be accommodated at the Marsa Malaz Kempinski hotel, on the artificial island The Pearl (The Pearl), in the north of Doha. They will train on a field of the Al-Gharafa club, about fifteen kilometers away.

This is the eleventh participation of the Americans, 16th in the FIFA rankings, in a football World Cup (with the best result of third place in 1930), the first since 2014.

In recent days, staff members from Argentina and Japan have also arrived in Qatar.
