In our live blog we will keep you up to date on the daily events at the football World Cup 2022 in Qatar.

7.28 a.m .: Big party in Argentina

Football fans in Argentina celebrated a big party after their national team reached the final. They gathered mainly in the area around the obelisk in the capital Buenos Aires, as reported by the Argentine news agency “Telam” on Tuesday evening (local time). Many had followed the 3-0 (2-0) semi-final victory against Croatia at the public viewing on big screens. For the football-crazy country, the sporting success is a ray of hope in the midst of a permanent economic crisis with galloping inflation.

“It was a great pleasure,” quoted “Telam” a fan named Nicolás Adi, who had painted his face light blue and white in the colors of the “Albiceleste”. “I thought the result would be closer. Now I’m excited to see who the opponent will be and the only thing I want on Sunday is to cry with joy.” Then there is the final at the World Cup in Qatar. Argentina’s opponent will be determined on Wednesday between defending champions France and the big World Cup surprise Morocco.

Lionel Messi had led his team to a clear 3-0 win against Croatia. He scored the first goal himself in the 34th minute with a penalty kick. The 35-year-old put the 2-0 and 3-0 up on his strike partner Julian Álvarez (39/69). Now he’s just one win away from his long-awaited first world title. (dpa)
