The Swiss curlers start the home World Cup in Schaffhausen with a 3:5 defeat against the USA.

This is not how the CC Geneva curlers imagined the start of the home World Cup in Schaffhausen: In the starting game, Yannick Schwaller, Benoît Schwarz-van Berkel, Sven Michel and Pablo Lachat had to admit defeat to the USA 3:5.

The nervousness in front of the home crowd in the almost sold-out IWC Arena was particularly noticeable in Schwarz-van Berkel, who always plays the last stones for the Swiss. He only managed 71 percent of successful stones throughout the game.

The Americans led by Skip John Shuster were able to steal a total of three stones by the 6th end and led 3-0. Only then did a Swiss reaction finally follow in the form of a two-person house.

With the USA 4:2 in the 9th end, Skip Schwaller’s team was once again unable to take advantage of the last stone and only scored one point. The American Olympic champions from 2018 did not let this decisive advantage be taken away from them – also because Schwarz-van Berkel’s last stone fell far too short.

This is how it continues

On Easter Sunday, Switzerland will face Norway in the morning (from 9:00 a.m. live on SRF two) and Sweden in the afternoon (from 2:00 p.m. live on SRF two).
