World of Warcraft is well known: Over the many years that the game has been on the market, there have already been many expansions with new content. But how are you supposed to keep track? We’ll tell you in which order you can best navigate through the new content from Azeroth fights.
World of Warcraft is about the most successful MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) in the world. The history of its origin is quite eventful: It was first published in 2004, but only in 2005 in Europe. The main game is now known as the “vanilla version” and has been improved and expanded with many addons over the years. So far, 8 expansions have been released at regular intervals, the most recent being the “Shadowlands” addon. Additionally, in 2019, the base version of the game was re-released as World of Warcraft: Classic after years of fan pressure on Blizzard. In addition, the first addon, “The Burning Crusade”, was relaunched in 2021.
The Shadowlands expansion is the most recent and brought many new zones and other great content. Check out the trailer with the new features of the addon here:
World of Warcraft: The chronological addon order
According to the current status (beginning of 2022) there are 8 addons for the main game of World of Warcraft. Currently there are already rumors about a new addon. Based on the release rhythm of recent years, a new addon should be released at the end of 2022.
The current order is:
- The Burning Crusade (2007): With this expansion, for example, the maximum level was raised to 70 and two new races were introduced, the blood elves (Horde) and the draenei (Alliance).
- Wrath of the Lich King (2008): Here, among other things, the new class death knight and the new continent Northrend were introduced.
- Cataclysm (2010): This addon brought us 14 new dungeons and 6 raids.
- Mists of Pandaria (2012): A new arena and four additional battlefields awaited us in this expansion.
- Warlords of Draenor (2014): With this DLC you have reworked all lawns that appeared before Cataclysm. There was also a Twitter integration.
- Legion (2016): In the meantime, the maximum level has been increased to 110 and the demon hunter class has been added.
- Battle of Azeroth (2018): Four new races have been added for the Horde side and five new races for the Alliance. The max level is now 120.
- Shadowlands (2020): There was a big change to the level cap, which was reduced to 60. All characters that were already level 120 have been set to level 50. In addition, the cosmetic design options have been revised.
