World of Warcraft Classic will return to the Cataclysm era in 2024

When the terrible dragon Deathwing returns to Azeroth after a long exile, the destruction caused disfigures Kalimdor and the eastern kingdoms, profoundly reshaping the classic map of World of Warcraft. This disaster scenario is accompanied by a new profession, archaeology, and two new playable races: the Worgen werewolves of Gilneas, who join the Alliance, and the greedy Goblins finding refuge with the Horde after the destruction from their home by Deathwing. Some modifications will be on the agenda for the version Cataclysm Classicincluding increased experience gain to level up your characters faster.

The past is the future

But perhaps the biggest announcement of BlizzCon 2023 was the window open on “Classic+”, as theorists affectionately call it: a progressive evolution of WoW Classic towards an alternative version with exclusive content diverging from our memories.

This will begin with the Season of Discovery starting November 30, 2023. This new season will spread hidden runes throughout Azeroth. These new artifacts will allow us to profoundly modify the abilities of our class: Thief who tanks, Mage who heals, all kinds of madness will be possible to alter the daily routine. To cap off this experiment, Blizzard will offer a revamped version of Blackbrew Depths, which will now be a 10-person level 25 raid.

Blizzard even opens the door to new content designed exclusively for WoW Classic, like the crypts of Karazhan, an old place abandoned by developers during development. The future will tell us if the studio is really ready to create a real alternative version of the MMO, which could, who knows, evolve towards a future different from the known expansions in terms of content.

World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Classic will arrive during the first half of 2024. All the new features included in the extension are detailed on the official website.
