World of Warcraft: Dragonflight, will a VR version be released? The game director has answered us!

During our interviews on the occasion of the release of World of Warcraft: Dragonflightwe were able to ask a question out of scope (ie, not about the new expansion) and the game director, Ion Hazzikostas, answered us with an enthusiasm that pleasantly surprised us.

  • Do you think that one day you could create a VR version of World of Warcraft ?

Ion Hazzikostas: it’s the fantasy of dreams, stories, films like Ready Player One. Many in our team would like to be able to experience that. It’s an exciting thing about MMOs, to go to a completely different world and be someone else. The more immersive we can do, the better. VR is something that we each have our own personal experience of, it’s something as gamers that keep an eye on it, how the technology evolves. I hope to see it one day, but I think it’s not for tomorrow. As a player I hope to experience it one day, to be able to walk around in this world of magic and fantasy and see it all come to life around me.

In summary, he and his team believe that a dive into the world of World of Warcraft in virtual reality would be particularly immersive, even magical. Unfortunately, it won’t be a simple exercise and it would take a dedicated team to achieve so many difficulties to overcome to be able to offer a quality experience. between the lines, he explained to us that the VR market may not yet be developed enough to be able to motivate Blizzard. To be continued !
