World War Z: how many vehicles were destroyed during filming?

On the occasion of the broadcast of the film World War Z on Sunday June 19, 2022, from 9:05 p.m. on TFX, Télé Star reveals how many cars the production destroyed during the filming of this blockbuster.

Released in cinemas in 2013, the film World War Zrealized by Marc Forster, will be rebroadcast Sunday, June 19, 2022, from 9:05 p.m. on TFX. Worn by brad pitt in the main role, this feature film is in fact the film adaptation of the eponymous novel by Max Brooks. However, during pre-production, the producers decided not to use the original structure of the novel, which described several testimonials from survivors of the Global Zombie War. Thereby, it was chosen to focus on the point of view of a single protagonist : former United Nations employee Gerry Lane, played on screen by Brad Pitt.

The filming of this blockbuster was not easy for the producers and the director. The production of the film accumulated difficulties during the shooting. There were thus tensions, a change of scriptwriters, the need to plan new scenes, problems with special effects, etc. Filming was also several weeks late. Consequently, the release of the film in cinemas had to be postponed by several months, going from December 2012 to July 2013. For the record, the Hungarian anti-terrorist unit seized no less than 85 functional and illegal weapons to be used for the film in a warehouse in Bucharest.

World War Z: no less than 150 vehicles destroyed during filming

In addition, in order to achieve savings on the production budget, the stunts and the action scenes were visualized on computer before shootingwhich did not make them any less spectacular. “We destroyed about 150 vehicles“, revealed Simon Crane, the director of the 2nd team. “We rammed the garbage truck and caused a pile-up between Brad Pitt’s Volvo and an ambulance, among others! It was spectacular. At least 80% of cars are scrapped. Glasgow was a great find. We’ve cordoned off several neighborhoods to orchestrate car crashes safely outside buildings!“, he also added during the promotion of World War Z.
