Worldwide regulation – minimum shelf life for electric car batteries is coming

Should the regulation come into force, car manufacturers would be obliged to guarantee at least 80 percent residual capacity for batteries after 5 years or 100,000 kilometers and at least 70 percent after 160,000 kilometers or 8 years. The latter corresponds to the warranty offered by most manufacturers from Peugeot to Volkswagen, with a few exceptions. With the Tesla models Y and S, it is 240,000 km, Mercedes offers 70% for the EQS after 10 years or 250,000 km, Lexus for the UX300e ten years or one million kilometers. Kia, for example, is limited to seven years / 150,000 kilometers.
