Worley secures 16th World Cup win over Lenzerheide giants

Les Bleues’ dream weekend continued in Lenzerheide (Switzerland). After Romane Miradoli’s first World Cup victory, in super-G on Saturday, it was Tessa Worley who won on Sunday March 6, winning the giant slalom. The 32-year-old Frenchman pocketed her sixteenth World Cup victory, ahead of Olympic vice-champion Federica Brignone and Olympic champion Sara Hector.

Third after the first run, 16 hundredths behind the Swedish Hector, Worley achieved a perfect second run, under the eyes of Roger Federer, present for the occasion. The Swiss tennis player, who attended the consecration of Miradoli yesterday, brought luck to the French women, Worley winning his second victory of the season after his success in Lienz (Austria) on December 28th.

“I’m super happy, it was a great day. I felt confident, I wanted to attack. I didn’t ask myself any questions, it was 100% attack, I knew I was fast, it paid off.”welcomed Worley after the race.

Worley still in the race for the giant’s little globe

This success allows Worley to stay in the race for the small globe of the specialty, a distinction she has already won at the end of the 2017 season. The Grand-Bornand skier is now 55 points behind Sara Hector, who occupies the first place in the ranking, while the last two giant events will take place on March 11 in Are (Sweden) and during the last stage of the World Cup, on March 20 in Courchevel and Méribel.

Also engaged on Sunday, Miradoli ended its weekend with a 20and square. And as this weekend was destined to see Les Bleues shine, Coralie Frasse Sombet achieved her best career performance, finishing in 9and place of this giant slalom.
