In a few days, The Last of Us Part II Remastered will be released on PS5. While revealing a new list of trophies linked to the mode added to this version, Naughty Dog has made official the upcoming release of a making-of.

The Last of Us has a long history. Launched in 2013 on PS3, the title arrived on PS4 the following year in a remastered version which included the Left Behind expansion. The game was then entitled to a remake, released on PS5 in September 2022 and on PC March 2023.

It is from this game that the HBO series came, which has already won numerous awards. On January 19, The Last of Us Part II will be entitled to its remaster, accompanied by some bonuses.

Grounded 2 announced by Naughty Dog

Grounded, that’s not the name of the studio’s next game, the latest news of which is the abandonment of the multiplayer game The Last of Us. No, Grounded, that’s the name given to the making-of of The Last of Us Published almost ten years ago, this documentary directly produced by Sony looked back on the creation of the first game, the difficulties linked to production, the implementation of the mechanics, and the creation of the universe. The latter was well received, to the point of being directly integrated into the remake, and of motivating the production of Rising Kratos, making-of dedicated to the development of God of War (2018).

Although these are documents produced by Sony and therefore one should not expect an in-depth investigation into the development conditions, the making-ofs remain very good and address some sensitive points. Hopefully this will also be the case for Grounded II: Making The Last of Us Part II, announced recently.

This new documentary will be available soon via a content update, and will last no less than 83 minutes. According to the trailer visible below, the question of crunch will be addressed, as well as the Covid-19 pandemic, the controversies, and the numerous leaks which took place before the release. We still have to warn you, because the trailer spoils an extremely important moment in the history of The Last of Us Part II. You have been warned!

The Last of Us Part II: when Naughty Dog pushes all the sliders to the limit

With The Last of Us in 2013, Sony launched a dynamic that is today part of its identity. It was from there that the manufacturer/publisher began to produce narrative action games, focusing heavily on the technical aspect. God of War (2018) will also follow this path, still leaving a lot of room for combat mechanics. With The Last of Us Part II, whose development ended in the middle of a pandemic (a shame for a game that talks about a pandemic), Naughty Dog wanted to go even further.

In addition to the technical evolution, the game tells two stories in parallel, in an adventure almost twice as long. Many thought The Last of Us stood on its own and didn’t need a sequel, and yet The Last of Part II was both a critical and commercial success, winning Game of the Year at the Games. Awards 2020. Victim of leaks, the title also highlighted subjects linked to the representation of women in video games, sexuality, and crunch in productions.

As a reminder, the remastered version of The Last of Us Part II will display higher definition textures, a free guitar mode as well as No Return mode, a sort of rogue-lite which will allow us to embody various characters and fight against entire waves of infected.
