Magath blasphemes about Bavaria’s Ibiza trip, Nagelsmann irritated

It’s about a possible distortion of competition by the pompous FC Bayern: Felix Magath starts with the mind games, the Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann etches back. Now the Hertha coach is upping the ante and ranting about the record champions’ party vacation after the Mainz bankruptcy.

As a precaution, Felix Magath sensed distortion of the competition after the match point was awarded. Hertha BSC had scarcely missed the premature rescue by going 1-1 (0-0) in the basement duel in Bielefeld when the trainer fox shot verbal poison arrows in the direction of the German champions Bayern Munich.

Magath didn’t like his 1: 3 (1: 2) bankruptcy in Mainz at all – especially since Munich are next opponents of the table sixteenth from Stuttgart: “FC Bayern are champions. I don’t know if he has stopped playing football. It’s not pretty,” he etched.

The reactions followed promptly. Asked about Magath’s statements, Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann countered: “That’s very clever of him. He won’t do it entirely unselfishly,” he said annoyed and advised his colleague to watch the game: “Then he can Call me. I’m not talking about Hertha’s performance either.”

But Magath followed up on Sunday. “I would definitely not allow something like that, something like that wouldn’t come to mind,” he said of the picture about the Ibiza trip of numerous Munich stars after the Mainz game and strengthened: “Once a championship celebration is understandable, but not for three weeks.”

Stuttgart can only smile tiredly about it

At VfB Stuttgart, after the meager 1:1 (0:1) at VfL Wolfsburg, which was saved with it, they reacted with a smug smile to Magath’s ignition. “We don’t need it,” said sports director Sven Mislintat. Hertha, he said, “has it in their own hands – and shouldn’t need Bayern Munich”. He issued a defensive route for his club: “First earn relegation and then stay in the league,” was the motto.

For half an hour, however, Magath’s rescue mission with Hertha BSC seemed to have been fulfilled prematurely. But then Arminia managed to equalize in injury time thanks to Bundesliga first goal scorer Joakim Nilsson – and VfB scored almost at the same time. It was “only” four points ahead of 16th place – the rescue of the old lady was postponed by at least a week. Magath commented on Maxi Mittelstädt’s pitifully missed big chance to make it 2-0: “It’s surprising that he passed the ball across again. He made that decision and we all have to live with it now.”

The situation is far more threatening for the strong East Westphalians, but their interim coach Marco Kostmann tried to be confident. “The point can still be valuable. It was very Arminia-like,” he said. “We’re still able to hold the Bundesliga two games before the end. That’s all that counts.”

On Friday (8.30 p.m. / DAZN and in the live ticker on ntv.de) at VfL Bochum, which has already been saved, a win for Bielefeld is a must. “We have to go all or nothing,” said veteran Gonzalo Castro. FC Augsburg can approach the last two matchdays much more relaxed. Despite the 1: 4 (0: 2) lesson against 1. FC Köln, the Bavarian Swabians are as good as saved. VfL Bochum even crowned a largely carefree season with a 4:3 (2:2) coup at Borussia Dortmund by staying up.
