WoW and Overwatch 2 can no longer be played in China

A few weeks ago we learned that the long-standing partnership between Blizzard and NetEase, the Chinese giant, allowing the studio’s productions to be distributed in the country, was about to end, after fourteen years of collaboration. Obviously, this information was a blow for Blizzard, but also for players who are fans of one of the world’s favorite productions, such as World of Warcraft, Overwatch 2 or Hearthstone.

As Reuters reports, in recent weeks the Chinese branch of Blizzard has tried to extend this partnership for a few months, in order to be able to turn around more properly afterwards by finding an alternative, without leaving the community without games. But NetEase declined the offer, which offered a six-month contract on the same basis.

In question, mainly ” material differences ” according to NetEase, while Blizzard mentions that none of the things proposed could be “ aligned with Blizzard’s operating principles and commitments to players and employees “. Therefore, from January 23, Blizzard games, including in addition to the three already mentioned StarCraft, Diablo and Heroes of the Storm, can no longer be played in China, and this, the time that the studio finds a new partner, which could take more or less time, according to the requests of one and the other of the parties.
