With the presumably imminent arrival of news regarding the expansion Wrath of the Lich King Classic of World of Warcraft, it seems interesting to us to consider certain still unknown elements of this “new” extension. One of them, of course, is the Deluxe Edition mount, which players will probably be able to obtain as soon as the expansion rolls out, as was the case for Burning Crusade Classic. But what could it be?
The Loutrèke, cute and therefore profitable?
We see you coming friends completely disconnected from the modern game: “What is a Loutreke?“. Don’t worry, it’s normal that you don’t know this creature since it was introduced and discovered by players in the Alpha of the Dragonflight expansion. This is actually the name that Blizzard has chosen to give to the otters of his game, and the least we can say is that they have a rather resounding success within the community.
If his model is particularly unique and adorable, his skeleton is too. All its animations are unique and from Dragonflight, and one could easily imagine that the softness embodied by such a creature could encourage Blizzard to consider such a mount as a reward for the Deluxe Edition. After all, how many players would be willing to pay for such a mount on WotLK Classic? Believe us, your estimates are probably far too low compared to the possible reality!
Only real downside: Although this mount echoes the Roharts of the Dragon Islands, and therefore somewhere of those of Northrend, we are quite far from the imagination of the frozen continent of Azeroth which appeals to players so much. Isn’t she too cute in the end for an extension carried largely by, according to some, “the charisma of Arthas”?
Yet another Proto-drake, the “easy” solution?
One of the more popular options we’ve heard here and there would be the introduction of a new Frost Wyrm as a mount for this Deluxe Edition. But here it is: there are already some in the game, and they are dedicated to players who manage to complete all the achievements of Icecrown Citadel or Gladiators. A relatively prestigious frame therefore and whose appearance must undoubtedly remain unique.
On the other hand, one can undoubtedly imagine the creation of a new Proto-drake. If there are already a whole slew of them in various and varied colors, Wrath of the Lich King did not actually offer any harnessed version of these mounts. A bluish Proto-drake on which we added an imposing armor like Spawn of Galakras for example ?
The idea seems unlikely to us given the lack of innovation involved, but Proto-Drakes are so iconic of Northrend and Wrath of the Lich King that they were no doubt among the possibilities Blizzard considered at some time! And then they fly, and that’s a huge selling point in a set where this feature is ubiquitous!
A collectible card game (TCG) mount?
Since Burning Crusade Classic, Blizzard seems to like the idea of offering players of the Classic version of the game rewards from the original collectible card game. Obtainable in many ways, these are often highly coveted by players who happily rush on them, the latest item being the incredible Tabard of Flames available in a Promotional Pack.
What if the Deluxe Edition mount was actually a new version of a mount from the TCG? Among the most popular and especially introduced with Wrath of the Lich King, it could notably be the white woolly rhinoceros who could make a comeback. Representing Northrend perfectly without sounding as “bling bling” as a Frost Wyrm, it would fit perfectly with the idea that players have of the extension.
Only downsides: It does not fly, and its model is nothing new although very few players have ever had access to it.
A Jormungar, iconic creature of Northrend?
The most likely final option (and our absolute favorite by far) would be to add a mount that resembles one of Northrend’s most fearsome and imposing creatures: the Jormungar. These huge carnivorous worms have long made some players dream, especially followers of Nordic mythology since the Jormungars are inspired by Jörmungand, and would correspond perfectly to the idea that we have of an exclusive mount purchasable in World of Warcraft: unique model, exclusive animations and widely coveted by players, this mount has it all!
Well… Almost everything, since like a lot of others in this list she probably (hopefully) couldn’t fly. But deep down, the Awakened Phase Hunter couldn’t fly either. Is that really an argument even though Wrath of the Lich King is more theft-focused than The Burning Crusade?
We want Jormungar as mounts. Pity. In addition, we could even imagine that it could be a mount with several slots for passengers, and that would be crazy (provided that the repairman located on the Mammoth of the tundra journey remains exclusive to this mount, of course).
