After the chaos surrounding the federal elections in Berlin, there are apparently further inconsistencies. The next mishap occurred in the elections for the House of Representatives. The authorities unceremoniously declared a fake politician the election winner. To blame for the misery: the identical name.
Because in Berlin two people named Andreas Otto stood up for the elections. Both politicians and both ran for entry into the city parliament, like the «Donut Morning mail»Reported. While one of the Andreas Otto volunteers for the FDP, the other Otto is involved with the Greens.
«A special thing»
The identity of the names apparently caused chaos among the authorities. After the counting of all votes, the election management informed the FDP Otto of his alleged election victory. This actually came out empty-handed.
The real winner, Andreas Otto from the Greens, was only able to celebrate belatedly. Compared to the «BZ» he commented on the mix-up with the words: «A strange thing». And further: “Either it happened despite or because of digitization.”
The Green politician, who won over 41 percent of the votes in his constituency, seems to be calm about the chaos. “These are stories that only exist in Berlin,” says Otto. Nevertheless, it is a clear sign that Berlin urgently needs to bring the administration into shape.
Berlin has already made headlines
The election management stated that the error occurred when comparing the existing documents for the notification of the election winners. Further investigations into the incident are currently underway. Shortly after the elections, Berlin hit the headlines because minors were also able to vote because of the simplified submission of ballots.
Despite the false notification, the FDP Otto could not have simply walked into parliament. The elected members of parliament must sign a declaration that they accept the election. This letter is clearly assigned to each person – including party affiliation. By then it would have become clear that it was not the FDP Otto, but the one from the Greens who had won the election.
