- Belinda Bencic (WTA 28) confidently reached the semifinals at the WTA 1000 tournament in Miami.
- The eastern Swiss defeated the Australian Daria Saville (WTA 249) in the quarterfinals 6: 1, 6.2.
- In the semifinals, she meets either Naomi Osaka (JPN/WTA 77) or Danielle Collins (USA/WTA 11).
Belinda Bencic continues to impress in Miami. As in the three previous rounds, she did not have to stand on the court for long in the quarter-finals and did not lose a set. Bencic defeated 28-year-old Australian Daria Saville (WTA 249) 6-1, 6-2 in 69 minutes.
In the semi-finals, Bencic meets Japan’s star Naomi Osaka or the American Danielle Collins, number 11 in the world rankings. The two will play their quarter-finals on Wednesday night, Swiss time.
Bear market finally ends
By reaching the semi-finals, the 25-year-old from Eastern Switzerland broke a negative series. Since her golden triumph at the Tokyo Olympics last July, she has reached the quarterfinals of WTA tournaments seven times – and lost seven times.
She was last seen on American soil in 2019 in semifinals, namely in Indian Wells and at the US Open.
