Video telephony has become very important to many over the past few months. This is also shown by some functions that iOS 15 will offer.

At a keynote at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), an annual Apple developer conference, on June 7th, the US company presented numerous new functions that will appear with iOS 15. This is what iPhone users expect after an update, which should be available from autumn.

Together instead of alone

Due to the isolation caused by the corona pandemic, many people have increasingly used video telephony in recent months. After Apple boss Tim Cook (60) welcomed an audience made up of Memojis in a live stream, fresh features for the in-house service “FaceTime”, which enables video calls and conferences, started right away.

Thanks to 3D audio, individual voices in a video call will in future come from the direction where a person is currently on the display. Noise from the environment should be minimized thanks to new modes during transmission. A portrait mode automatically softens the background in a call and focuses on the person in front of the camera.

With “Facetime Links” appointments for phone calls can be set and shared in the future. Android and Windows users can participate via the browser. Last but not least, users can also share video and audio content using the new “SharePlay” function. For example, if you would like to watch a film or series, a Twitch stream or a few TikToks with friends via the streaming provider Disney +, you can do so directly via “FaceTime”.

Other new functions

iOS 15 should also offer fresh features that should help users to concentrate better. With a “focus” mode, messages are filtered, for example, depending on the user’s settings. For example, if you have to concentrate on your work, you should only be notified of relevant information. Users can then, for example, display pages with apps or widgets that are relevant to the respective situation.

The iPhone should also be able to recognize text in photos in the future, Safari is getting a fresh design and new data protection functions should ensure even more privacy. An on-device speech recognition from Siri should enable the processing of inquiries completely on the iPhone by default. In order to create a timer or call up the calendar, for example, there is no need to be connected to the Internet. In addition, the weather app will be graphically revised and the notes app will also receive new functions such as tags created by users to make it easier to organize content.

These are just a few of the features Apple would like to introduce with iOS 15. The update should then appear in the fall for iPhone 6s and newer devices. Developers can already take a look at a beta version. A public beta should be available from next month.
