WWDC 2022 – iOS 16 introduces a new lock screen

Like every year, Apple’s WWDC honors Apple’s mobile operating systems. This details the new features included in iOS 16, which will debut in the final version on the iPhone 14, including the new lock screen.

Having reached maturity, the operating system for smartphones made in Apple will not undergo a major overhaul in 2022. The Cupertino company, on the occasion of its WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference), details an iOS 16 dedicated to its iPhones which improves certain aspects of iOS 15, but retains the essentials of the current version. First beneficiary of the innovations of iOS 16: the lock screen.

As Google did at the presentation of Android 13 during its recent I/O, Apple puts personalization in the spotlight with iOS 16. The system intends to allow the user to personalize to the extreme lock Screen. This involves both the aesthetic aspect of said screen, whose dominant colors and fonts will be configurable, as will the photos in the background with a clever automatic cropping of subjects or even colored filters.

Apple also offers a system of widgets to place on this lock screen for an overview of the weather or the calendar, but also Live Activity. This dynamic widget will make it possible to obtain information on “activities” in progress without unlocking the iPhone. This will concern both the progress of a sports competition, that of a sports session or even the follow-up of an Uber race. Concentration mode is now extended to the lock screen, which will therefore display information related to the profile used.

Finally, Apple is improving the display of notifications that will overlap to prevent them from filling the entire lock screen when they are received in large numbers.
