Apple announced Tuesday that its annual developer conference will be held from June 6 to 10. WWDC 2022 will once again be online, but perhaps more virtual than ever…
There is a game to which I lend myself several times a year with a certain delight, it is that of playing Madame Irma and trying to read the crystal ball represented each time by the invitation cards sent by Apple for keynotes.
Three to four times a year, when it lands in the mailboxes, or by deciphering the videos that the brand’s pundits hasten to publish on Twitter, we believe we can detect clues to the program to come through a tagline, a visual, the choice of a color. And we must admit that it is rather funny to do. Over the years, with experience and also knowledge of the principles of the “house”, I manage to refine my forecasts and often see things correctly (sometimes completely off the mark too, I have to admit).
The call to arms… of the code
After that of spring, Tuesday, it is the announcement of the WWDC developer conference, scheduled for June 6 to 10, which was accompanied by its small logo of the event and the invitation message: ” Call to code”. The opportunity to decode and consider what can await us during this meeting often devoted, and above all, to professionals.

As often in recent times, it was Greg Joswiak who gave the official kickoff with a tweet accompanied by the video illustrating the given appointment. As always, nothing is left to chance on the side of Cupertino and we always like to slip clues into the announcement. This often announces a new color for iPhone or iPad, the sign of speed, writing for a new Pencil or a new technology to come.
Every detail counts in the invitation, from the colored background to the sometimes sibylline little phrase. This is also what makes it possible to flush out the fakes that flourish before each keynote… There is an Apple touch even in the invitations.

Yes, but Apple’s programming language logo is usually orange, why black then, even for the stylized? Maybe because it will be a question of coding something very particular…
The advent finally of the virtual reality headset?

A call to come and code something new, therefore, in a way that brings together the forces present (some 6,000 developers usually present and millions online now all the same). In the video, Swift’s emblem thus emerges from the shadows like a coat of arms and a revelation of a new day. We could even see an inverted tribute to the mockingbird of the saga Hunger Games.The battle is taking shape on new ground.
The time is therefore important and it is probably not without reason either that the bird is in a circle, with a few flashes of light here and there. A luminous circle on a black background with a few snippets of light and colors circling around it as if to refer to a screen, and one begins to see in it a little nod to round lenses… glasses.
For a long time, we have hoped to see the famous virtual reality headset appear, so much whispered, or augmented reality glasses. If we know very well that the product will be shown to developers before the general public (even if the WWDC mixes up all the curious) so that they can appropriate it and start… coding applications to make it work. The black background would be explained by the need for immersion in the headset, to better bring out this new screen with multiple colors, with the developers who are going to bring it to life at the center of everything. The circle of the invitation could thus be completed.

But Swift can also simply say Swift and recall the primary purpose of theWorldwide Developers Conference , namely talking to developers and students. However, it would be surprising from Tim Cook and his teams who have to spend many hours designing a simple invitation, just to say then: “We told you so, though.! “.
The color could also refer to a new screen. We know that the recent Studio Display, despite undeniable screen qualities for LCD, has not been totally convincing. The Pro Display XDR is amust havea bit expensive for many. A third intermediate screen, as well calibrated as the first, but this time mini-LED, could be inserted and be called Studio Display Pro. Black blacker than black, while being colorful and bright, could then simply refer to the future quality of the panel. Disappointing limit.
And what about the Mac Pro? To be honest, we don’t see it too much in our crystal ball. That may be our share of error. Unless someone explains to us that, thanks to its power, it only took 23 seconds to create the invitation. And there, hats off! But to find out if our guesses are correct, let’s meet on June 6, probably around 7 p.m. (Paris time) for Tim Cook to tell us if we were right or completely off the mark.
After a year 2021 dense in number of products, Apple is still looking for a way to make an impact and stand out. 2022 promises to be rich in expected and quality novelties. Habits that could fly…
