Like every year at the same time, Apple will organize, from June 5 to 9 at Apple Park in Cupertino, its WWDC (WorldWide Developers Conference). The 2023 edition, which will be the 34th, should be particularly rich in announcements. They will be made during its inaugural conference, the traditional keynote. Appointment is therefore made on June 5 at 7 p.m. for a speech orchestrated by Tim Cook. It will be broadcast on Apple’s website and its YouTube channel. As usual, Apple says nothing, or almost, of the program. His online invitation mentions “the latest advances in iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS and tvOS”, And that’s about it. But the leaks have been numerous in recent months and allow you to get a clear idea of what to expect from the event.
Reality Pro, Apple’s first headset
WWDC is, as its name suggests, an event dedicated to developers and therefore to their core business: software. However, products make an incursion there every year, such as MacBooks. If it is not excluded that computers appear at the Apple keynote, it is another category that is impatiently awaited there, represented by a device: a mixed reality headset.
Rumors are rife about him, with great support for filing trademarks with international authorities, disclosures orchestrated by experts from Cupertino or members of the industry. According to Mark Gurman in particular, a journalist at Bloomberg, the helmet from Apple will undoubtedly take the name of Reality Pro and will look not like eyeglasses, but like a ski goggle decked out with external modules. It is indeed a question of a wired battery connected to the device to allow long use without encumbering the weight of the product.
Intended to mix virtual and augmented reality, the headset would be compatible with Apple apps, including FaceTime or Safari, and would offer both eye and gesture controls. The Reality Pro (if that is its name) would not only be the first in its category in the Apple universe, but also to embed a dedicated operating system: xrOS. Thus equipped, the helmet would undoubtedly be the engine of a market which is trying to find a place in the sun in 2023. New software: iOS 17, iPadOS 17, but not only
Event dedicated to developers, WWDC is the place to present new software from Apple. Star devices of the brand, the iPhone will undoubtedly be served, since iOS 17 will be on the conference program. The system, which should not be an overhaul of iOS 16, but an improvement in small touches, could include some new functions dedicated to the Dynamic Island inaugurated on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, but also interactive widgets on its screen reception and a modernized Control Center.
In addition to its appearance, iOS 17 should also gain a new lock screen, and even an application dedicated to the journaling, this form of “diary” intended to promote the mental well-being of the user. The changes could go far beyond the appearance of iOS 17. It could be that Apple signs the end of the hegemony of its App Store to meet the requirement of the European Union by opening its smartphones to third-party portals — on the Old Continent, at least.

Other in-house software that has been the subject of less information leaks will also be honored. On the tablet side, iPadOS 17 could gain new features related to the Stage Manager function, in particular. Connected watches will not be forgotten, since Apple mentions watchOS in its keynote program, as well as tvOS for the Apple TV box. There is no doubt that fruity show services, Apple TV+ in the lead, will also be in the spotlight.
macOS… to accompany a new Mac?
A final operating system will be showcased at Apple Park: macOS, dedicated to the brand’s computers. While not much is known about Ventura’s successor, it might not arrive alone. It seems that the 15-inch MacBook Air, the largest ever produced in this category of laptops, is no longer in the rumor stage, but in the production phase. Will it have the Apple M2 chip? Will other MacBook Air or Pro come with it? For now, it’s hard to say more.
