Wyrdsong, a new open-world RPG developed by Bethesda and BioWare alumni

L’Gamescom 2022 Opening Night Live was rich in announcements, and especially in new licenses. Between Where Winds Meet Where Atlas Fallen, we were able to discover a lot of new universes. That of wyrdsong also let himself be approached, but much too briefly, with a teaser of a few seconds which does not help much to form an opinion on the game. But looking at the team behind, we immediately feel that The game will have to be watched very closely.

The Western RPG dream team?

wyrdsong presents itself as an RPG-oriented AAA, set in an open world and based on the Unreal Engine 5. Just with that, we could already have water in the mouth.

The game will take place in the Middle Ages, with a slightly more occult and much less realistic turn of course, all in Portugal. A choice that already arouses curiosity, and this enigmatic first teaser makes you want to see more, especially since the team wants to redefine the modern RPG genrejust that.

Behind this project, we find Something Wicked Games, a brand new studio made up of industry veterans. It’s headed by Jeff Gardiner, who spent 15 years at Bethesda on games like Fallout 3 and 4or Skyrim. He is supported by Charles Stapels, who worked on Fallout New Vegas and The Outer Worlds. The rest of the team is made up of talent from renowned studios, such as BioWareenough to show that the studio knows about RPGs.

Of course, we have no release date, or even platforms for this wyrdsong.
