The social network X.com aims to offer many services in the future, including making calls. A goal that is starting to come true.

Paid X.com subscribers have had access to a new feature since last year that allows them to make audio and video calls. An interesting option, but only if it offers the possibility of reaching as many people as possible, and therefore, a majority of non-paying users. This is what the management of the platform seems to have said, which is rolling out a major change at this level.

The call option will arrive for all accounts

Soon, anyone registered on X.com will be able to call another user. This is what X.com engineer Enrique Barragan has just announced in a post on the platform, a message which was then echoed by the location’s boss Linda Yaccarino.

This possibility will gradually be rolled out to all users. Those who have access must first have sent at least one message to a user’s account before being able to call them. It will also be possible to select the people who can call you, from the following four categories: everyone; verified accounts; the people followed; people registered in your contacts.

X, the universal platform?

To make his announcement, Enrique Barragan cited a message from Elon Musk, dated January 31, in which the billionaire already announced this new feature: “ As soon as we are sure it is robust, audio and video calling will be rolled out widely to X users. »

More generally, this initiative is part of the desire of the richest man in the world to make his platform a universal network that can offer almost all the services available on a smartphone. Because after the calls, the Tesla owner’s other major project for his social network is to develop financial services. So what might X look like by 2030?
