The trail of a first folding smartphone at Vivo is gaining momentum. Shared on Weibo, two photos show a potential X Fold being used in a Chinese subway station.
Mentioned by the rumor for a few weeks, the track of a first folding smartphone seems to materialize little by little at Vivo, with a certain X Fold. The device, of which we know almost nothing for the moment, was seen in a Chinese metro station. In the two photos shared immediately on Weibo, we discover a functional device, but whose design is concealed by a thick plastic shell.
What we notice, on the other hand, is the absence of a visible crease on the screen. According to GSMArena, this particularity would be made possible by a complex mechanism developed by Vivo for the hinge of its product. The slab would be otherwise covered with an ultra-thin glass plate (ultra-thin glass, or UTG), as is the case with many current folding smartphones.
A smartphone that is still very mysterious
Regarding the technical sheet of the device, we are still in the dark. Previous rumors mentioned an 8-inch QHD + screen, capable of going up to a refresh rate of 120 Hz. Under the hood, we would find for the rest a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, coupled with a 4600 mAh battery. The latter would be compatible with 80 W fast wired charging, while we would benefit from 50 W for induction charging.
If this information deserves to be confirmed, it is clear that 2022 will mark a turning point for the folding smartphone market, with the expected release of several models from Oppo, Royole, Motorola, TCL and Xiaomi. The latter will aim to compete with Samsung and its Galaxy Z Fold 3 / Galaxy Z Flip 3. A good thing for the consumer: ending the Korean giant’s almost absolute stranglehold on this field should make it possible to lower prices while offering more options to the general public.
