To keep them waiting, Marvel has also put online a new featurette revealing behind the scenes of this new series which, as its executive producer Brad Winderbaum points out, is indeed a continuation of that of the 1990s and not a reboot.

The return of a cult series

X-Men ’97 will bring us back to the X-Men, as they have just forged a fragile alliance with the powerful Magneto after the death of Professor Xavier.

As consulting producer Larry Houston explains in this short making-of, it is mainly a question in X-Men ’97 to retain the themes of the original series while adapting them for a whole new audience.

Amid new images from the animated series, we can also see the voice actors from the original show, also returning for this new adventure. Among them, Cal Dodd who lends his voice to Wolverine in original version, or Alison Sealy-Smith who gives her voice to Storm.

The latter also mention that they had no idea of the impact of the animated series X-Men 30 years ago, and this new version is “everything you expect from a new series X-Men.”

Of course, the cult credits of the original series are also back, because what would be X-Men without that unforgettable synth melody.

X-Men ’97 is a series written by Beau DeMayo (Moon Knight) whose first season, which arrives March 20 on Disney+, is made up of ten episodes.
