Xavier Niel joins ByteDance (TikTok) on its board of directors

In a few days, Xavier Niel will be at the Olympia to explain “how to become a billionaire“. The man with many hats and mainly known for the founding of the operator Free, let the cat out of the bag at the end of August on part of his method: investing (or at least investing himself) in companies that work and diversifying. Indeed, Niel replaced Philippe Laffont on the board of directors of ByteDance. This is the parent company behind one of the most used services in the world, namely TikTok.

Xavier Niel: an increasingly active billionaire

Alongside four other members, namely Rubo Liang (president of ByteDance), Neil Shen (of the investment fund Sequoia Capital) and two American financiers, Arthur Dantchik and William E. Ford (of the investment funds Susquehanna International and General Atlantic), Xavier Niel will not have an executive mandate, but will be able to provide advice and opinions on the direction to take by the group. The latter has been subject to a lot of pressure recently, particularly around TikTok, which risks being banned in the United States and is under surveillance in Europe.
