Yesterday’s Xbox/Bethesda conference managed to win us over, despite many notable absences. There are many more projects than that in the pipes of Microsoft and its studios, but as the manufacturer announced from the first seconds of its live, this meeting only focused on the releases of the next 12 months. It was the only right thing to do, in order to clarify the release schedule for 2022, while avoiding going into overdrive by showing games that will only be there in several years.
The line up of solidity… in 2023
Xbox, Bethesda and Blizzard’s Summer Game Fest conference ultimately focused exclusively on next year of the life of the console and the Xbox Game Pass. And there were a lot of people, we’re not going to lie to each other, however the end of 2022 is still very timid in terms of major releases: many games announced yesterday did not have a proper release date shape, simply a vague “2023” for most large cartridges. Major surprises level, apart from a very complete trailer for Diablo IV and, of course, the gameplay demo of more than 15 minutes for Starfield.
Xbox Game Pass Conference
We have seen dozens of times the little jingle of a few seconds indicating that a game will be available directly on Game Pass at the time of its release during the show. We feel that the Microsoft service has raised the tone again with this pure show of force: all Riot games with dedicated advantages, the Arlesian Hollow Knight Silksong, the cult J-RPGs from Atlus, Persona 3, 4 and 5… We pass and the best. Finally, as we said in our summary of the Xbox conference, it is not trivial if Microsoft goes “all in” on the XGP, since its catalog will be soon accessible from a wide selection of Smart TVs: you no longer need consoles to enjoy it, all you need is an Xbox controller and your subscription.
