Just like games, consoles are also entitled to their updates to improve the user experience. This week, Microsoft has started the launch of an update for its ecosystem Xboxin particular to optimize accessibility by adding very practical functionalities.
So, what’s in store for players with this February 2024 update? Well touch controls for remote gaming, a new joystick calibration tool for wireless controllers, and an improved filtering and sorting system. Here are all the new features in detail:
- Touch controls enabled for Xbox remote gaming :
Want to play games while you’re away from your console, but don’t have your Xbox Wireless Controller handy? No problem ! Xbox Remote Play now supports custom touch control configurations for over a hundred games when using the Xbox app on iOS, Android, and Windows devices. The same custom touch setups available through Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta) will now be available when playing games remotely from your home console. This includes games like Minecraft Dungeons, Psychonauts 2, Sea of Thieves, and many more. Additionally, a basic touch control setup can now be used for most other games.
- New Xbox Wireless Controller Recalibration Tool :
We’re excited to launch a user-guided self-calibration tool on the Xbox Accessories app that helps you recalibrate gamepads for Xbox Wireless Controllers. This is part of Xbox’s continued investment in improving controller repairability. To troubleshoot minor controller issues, such as inconsistent responses, use the controller’s self-calibration tool. the Xbox Accessories app on console or PC to resolve issues without having to call support, repair controllers, or return them.
Xbox allows Xbox Wireless Controller owners to repair their devices themselves by selling official replacement parts in the Microsoft Store. If you are repairing your controller yourself, the controller recalibration tool should be used after replacing the controller base and circuit board, as this may disrupt the controller calibration settings. This recalibration tool does not resolve all controller issues, including drift due to normal wear and tear. To start, Update your Xbox Wireless Controller to the latest firmware to unlock this new feature.
- Improved filters and sorting – My games and apps :
We’ve added new filters and sorts to My Games & Apps to help you find exactly what you’re looking for on your Xbox. You can now filter games based on accessibility, supported languages, and technical specifications. For example, if you want to see which games support touch controls for remote play, you can filter by Tech Features > Touch Support and find your next game.
Additionally, the subscription tabs in your library have been updated to be sorted by Recently Added, making it easier to find what’s new in subscriptions like Xbox Game Pass and EA Play. You can always change the sort to find games to play in your library. Just head to My Games & Apps > Library to check out all the new filtering and sorting options.
- Automatic profile logout :
A new Access Restriction option has been created to make it easier to play on shared consoles in locations such as hospitals. Some children’s hospitals have implemented programs to provide consoles that can be carried into a patient’s room to allow them to play and connect with friends. The new option makes it easier to delete gamer profiles when they log out, and removes the need to check whether patients have logged out of consoles when the game cart is moved from patient to patient.
To view and adjust the new options, go to Settings > System > Access Restrictions to allow use of the Edge web browser, set a home console, and delete player profiles when logged out.
