XDefiant: an open beta and a big roadmap

Rather than talking about open beta, Ubisoft announces more modestly a “technical test”, which in fact will allow us to taste their FPS proposal while putting their servers to the test. Open from June 21 to 23, this technical test will be reserved for PC and Xbox Series X|S players. If you are on PS5, you will have to wait until the final release, planned for “during the summer”, according to Ubi. And speaking of the release, an impressive roadmap promises to constantly fuel XDefiant once the beast in the wild.

Maps you don’t know what to do with

As the image above makes clear, the first year of XDefiant will be divided into 4 quarters, each focused around a new faction with unique skills. Each season will also bring three new weapons and three new maps, for a total of twelve guns and arenas for the year at no additional cost. Indeed, let us recall that XDefiant will be free-to-play. To cover its costs, Ubisoft will provide a battle pass per season, stuffed with cosmetics as we know them. New game modes, anti-toxicity tools and tutorials for newbies will also reinforce these first twelve months.

XDefiant intends to step on the toes of the Call of Duty titan by offering a similar experience with free-to-play sauce. They can count on the know-how of Mark Rubin, ex-executive producer at Infinity Ward, and on a faction system incorporating several iconic Ubisoft franchises. At launch, we will be able to embody the guerrilla medics of Libertad (Far Cry 6), the Phantom scouts (Ghost Recon), the spies of Echelon (Splinter Cell) and the Pyromaniac Cleaners (The Division). Note that you can also unlock the DedSec hackers (Watch_Dogs) while playing.

Note that the Wolves of Ghost Recon Breakpoint and the Pariahs of The Division 2 are also expected in the long term, without it being known that they are hiding behind one of the mystery factions of the first year.
