XDefiant: Release date, gameplay, platforms and more

The new FPS from Ubisoft named XDefiant was born from the universe of Tom Clancy but has since evolved suggesting a team game in the same vein as Call of Duty. Everything we know so far.

While Ubisoft already has a popular FPS in the Tom Clancy universe with the Rainbow Six series, a new game is about to shake things up.

On July 18, 2021, first images of a new shooter appeared on social media before Ubisoft quickly confirmed that its full reveal was scheduled for July 19.

Set in a single universe, XDefiant is expected to come to life soon as it nears beta testing. While still loosely tied to the novelist’s historical themes with Clancy-inspired factions, Ubisoft looks set to go for a more futuristic setting as seen in early footage of the game.

XDefiant release date

Although it was revealed on July 19, 2021, XDefiant does not yet have an official release date. However, players can register now for a chance to participate in the game’s “early deployment phases”.

Content creators were able to try their hand at the game a few days before the announcement, and as we saw in the official trailer, the project seems already well advanced in its development.

Early footage looks pretty polished, and players will soon have early access before the official launch through Insider Sessions.

XDefiant Platforms

According to the gameplay trailer released on July 19, this new FPS is confirmed on Xbox One and X|S, PlayStation 4/5, PC, and even Google Stadia.

The initial gameplay appears to be from PC, as evidenced by on-screen inputs throughout the initial sequence and trailer. Whether the game will perform or look the same on all of these platforms remains to be seen.

Ubisoft

XDefiant is expected to be released sometime this year.

Is there an open beta of XDefiant?

XDefiant will have beta testing, or “Insider Sessions” as Ubisoft likes to call them. Insider Sessions are open for invites starting March 15, with Ubisoft steadily increasing the number of participating players as the game gets closer to launch.

Players have already been able to test the game in August 2021. So if you want to be ready for the next step, you will have to go to the game’s official website.

XDefiant trailer and gameplay details

The early stages of gameplay gave us a first taste of what we can expect from XDefiant. And from the first images, we can clearly see that this new game seems quite inspired by the Call of Duty franchise.

This FPS feels very aggressive, as evidenced by the lightning-fast time to kill, with players only needing a few shots to take down an enemy.

Every player seems to have access to a standard assortment of lethal and tactical gear. However, unique abilities also seem to charge over time. From self-healing abilities to powerful shields, the different classes seem to have their own set of gadgets.

According to the first images, the game seems to offer several game modes. In one of them, players must seize various positions in order to accumulate points, similar to the Domination mode of CoD.

And there you have it, that’s all we know about XDefiant for now, but as soon as more information is revealed, then we’ll be sure to keep you posted.
