XGIMI projector: How to install Netflix on your device

NETFLIX

You can only install the Netflix app on XGIMI projectors to a limited extent. You can bypass the restrictions by taking detours. You just need the right accessories.

  • Various projector models from XGIMI do not allow the installation of Netflix.
  • For devices with Android TV, you can use Desktop Manager to install Netflix natively.
  • The alternative is a WiFi dongle like the Google Chromecast or streaming via a laptop with an HDMI cable.

The projectors from XGIMI are popular – although the manufacturer does not belong to the big brand names like Epson, LG or ViewSonic, many models convince with a good price-performance ratio. However, there is one major limitation. You cannot use Netflix natively on many models. Either you can’t install the app at all or you can’t access any content.

The best example of this is the mobile projector XGIMI Halo+. You cannot use the Netflix streaming service on the following models:

  • XGIMI Halo
  • XGIMI Halo+
  • XGIMI MoGo Pro
  • XGIMI MoGo Pro+

Manufacturer recommends this workaround

It is sometimes not known what causes the restriction, which has existed for a long time. The manufacturer’s website only says: “We are currently working on the BD process (business development process) for Netflix”. The devices probably did not go through a certification process at Netflix, which is why the provider suppresses playback.

However, the community found a workaround some time ago that allows you to use Netflix natively on XGIMI projectors, even in high resolution. This is also mentioned on the manufacturer’s website. To do this, you need to install the “Desktop Manager” (XTV Manager) app from the Play Store.

If you open the app after installation, you will be given the option to install various apps – including Netflix. Installs the app after confirming that “Desktop Manager” can download third-party apps. On Google Play, however, comments have recently increased that the app is no longer running smoothly and is not designed for operation via remote control. That’s why we want to show you another way.

Alternatively: WLAN dongle or HDMI device

From our point of view, it is a better option if you connect an HDMI device. This can be a laptop, for example, which you connect to the projector with an HDMI cable. Even more convenient – but more expensive – would be to buy a WiFi dongle like the Google Chromecast. This allows you to wirelessly transfer Netflix to the projector, depending on the model even with a suitable user interface and remote control.
