While Samsung has an update guarantee of five years for all new smartphones and tablets, Xiaomi only gives you such an update guarantee for very few models, which is also a little shorter. With the Xiaomi 12T and 12T Pro you get even less than you should have.

Xiaomi 12T (Pro) gets four years of Android updates

Anyone who buys a new smartphone or tablet actually expects a good supply of updates. This is guaranteed by Google and now also by Samsung, but other manufacturers are still struggling. Xiaomi only offers an update guarantee for selected models. The Xiaomi 12T and 12T Pro are among them. Accordingly, both receive smartphones three new Android versions and four years of security updates:

Xiaomi ensures that you can use the new smartphones for at least four years without hesitation. How quickly and regularly the updates come is another question. Xiaomi is definitely not one of the fastest manufacturers. The Xiaomi 12T and 12T Pro only appear with Android 12, although Android 13 has actually been finished for a long time. So it will be for them both top smartphones effectively only give updates up to Android 15instead of up to Android 16 if Xiaomi had released the new phones directly with Android 13.

Samsung is way ahead of Xiaomi

While Xiaomi only chooses certain smartphones that are guaranteed to receive Android updates for a certain period of time, this does not apply to Samsung. Regardless of whether it is the Galaxy S22 Ultra or the Galaxy A53, all models are provided with Android updates for five years and receive four new Android versions. And all of this relatively quickly. Especially in the entry-level and mid-range, Xiaomi cannot keep up. At Google, there are only three new Android versions but five years of security updates. So Samsung is even superior to the Android developer.
